Value of Medicines Award is now Open

Medicines New Zealand's Value of Medicines Award is now Open

1 August 2016

Applications for the 2016 Value of Medicines Award are open for medical researchers and clinicians

Applications are open for Medicines New Zealand’s 2016 Value of Medicines Award, celebrating unique research that improves the understanding, effectiveness or safety of the use of medicines in New Zealand.

“An important part of our work is recognising and supporting research that is changing the medicines landscape as we know it” said Hon Heather Roy, Medicines New Zealand Chair.

“We are looking for applicants whose research shows advancements in medical science that can improve the health of New Zealanders and potentially save lives.”

Previous winners include University of Auckland’s Amy Chan, who won the 2015 Value of Medicines Award for her study on New Zealand children with asthma, investigating the impact of audio-visual reminders on inhalers. Chan’s randomised control trial saw an 180% increase in medicine adherence of those children whose audio-visual reminder was turned on. The results from Chan’s work have the potential to revolutionise health outcomes by reinforcing the benefits of taking medicine as directed.

“Medicines are an integral part of the healthcare solution. Supporting ground-breaking Kiwis in their endeavour to reshape New Zealand’s knowledge and use of medicines is one way we can build a healthier New Zealand” said Heather Roy.

The 2016 winner will be awarded a single payment of $20,000 to further their research.

Applicants can apply on the Medicines New Zealand website from 1 August 2016 – 16 September 2016.
