Kiwi Instagram Sensation Shares Story of Depression

Kiwi Instagram Sensation Shares Story of Depression In New Campaign Video

For Immediate Release

Wednesday, August 24
Auckland, NZ

Teen Instagram Celebrity Liam Miscellaneous (19), whose impersonations of celebrities garnered him almost 2 million followers, today launches a campaign video calling for more open conversation about depression.

In his “Overcoming Depression” video, Liam explores his experience of mental illness through spoken word, and calls others to share their story also.

The video is viewable on YouTube at https://youtu.be/1XtPmz-sp3U. Those impacted can share their stories through the hashtag #LiveForTomorrow.

Liam, who has actively dealt with depression since age 16, wrote, directed and edited the video himself and has partnered with Live For Tomorrow, the mental project of youth organisation Zeal, for its release.

“I wanted to make a unique video about depression, to provide insight to those who are suffering and reassure them that they are not alone,” Liam said. “I hope it can pull down barriers and create conversation about a topic that many sweep under the rug.”

Liam has been absent online for a period of months, but has now found his true passion going forward.

“I used to be so obsessed with followers and the likes on my photos that I lost my values and morals,” Liam said in the post. “Now I've learnt that I want to help those who are suffering with mental illness. I want to break down the stigma.”

Liam’s video comes a week before the launch of the Live For TomorrowPhoto Challenge, a 10 day social media challenge celebrating life in the lead up to World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.

The challenge begins next Thursday, 1 September.
