Dr Stuart Jones and John Clarke join the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ
President John Knight, and Chief Executive Letitia O’Dwyer are pleased to announce two new advisors to the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ, Dr Stuart Jones, MBChB, PhD, FRACP as Medical Director and John Clarke CNZM as Chief Cultural Advisor – Māori.
Dr Stuart Jones is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician practicing at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland. He trained as a respiratory specialist in both Dunedin and the UK, and has a PhD from Otago University.
Dr Jones is the President of the New Zealand branch of TSANZ (Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand). He has an interest in sleep medicine, asthma and airway inflammation, and bronchiectasis.
“Dr Jones brings with him a wealth of experience, and the Foundation is privileged to have him on board as our Medical Director,” says Letitia O’Dwyer, Chief Executive of the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ.
John Clarke is of Ngati Porou descent, has an educational background of 25 years, and is currently the Principal Cultural Advisor to the Minister of Treaty of Waitangi negotiations, amongst other high level roles. He is a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM), which was awarded in 2011 for outstanding service to Māori.
John is a fluent speaker of Te Reo Māori, and as Chief Cultural Advisor – Māori, represents the Foundation to raise awareness within the wider Māori community. John has an excellent understanding of Māori issues and provides the Foundation with advice on tikanga Māori.
“John is a highly-regarded leader with so much knowledge and experience to offer. We’re absolutely privileged to have John’s support, and we thank him for offering his services to us,” says O’Dwyer.
This September, the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ is running a national respiratory awareness campaign called Breathe Better September, to raise the profile of all respiratory conditions.
