Takatu Hub Extends Service To Flu And Winter Illnesses

Anyone who needs advice for non-urgent flu-related health issues can now call 0800 TAKATU to talk to local Tairāwhiti health professionals.

Takatu Hub, a partnership between Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti and Te Kupenga Net Trust, was created to offer wrap-around COVID support services and has now extended its services to include advice for flu and winter illnesses.

Te Whatu Ora District Director Jim Green says the service will offer the community another option for non-urgent health advice to local GPs, Healthline and the hospital emergency department.

“We know our GPs and primary care teams are under extreme pressure at the moment and the aim of this service is to provide care and support to our people, in partnership with primary care,” said Mr Green.

“Most flu and respiratory cases don’t need to be seen by a doctor, however people need the right advice on how to take care of themselves and loved ones.”

The phone lines are open from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday. Outside of these times, the community is encouraged to call Healthline on 0800 611 116.

“We’d like to remind people to always call 111 in an emergency, as help will always be available,” added Mr Green.
