Northcare Joins Tend Health, Strengthening Access To Urgent And Primary Care On Auckland's North Shore

Northcare Accident and Medical Centre, a well-respected provider of urgent and general medical care on Auckland’s North Shore, has joined the Tend Health network. The move supports continuity of care for patients, sustainable succession planning for GPs, and the long-term future of the practice.

Northcare has been led by Dr Peter Boot for the past eight years in its current form, with a longer local history under different ownership. Dr Boot says the decision to join Tend was guided by shared values and a strong belief in the future of general practice.

“We’ve always prioritised clinical quality and the wellbeing of our patients,” said Dr Boot. “Northcare has embraced innovation, invested in modern infrastructure and continuously evolved to meet the needs of our community.

Partnering with Tend means we can secure the future of the practice. Their commitment to clinical excellence, health equity and integrated care made them the right partner. I’m confident that Tend will honour Northcare’s legacy while continuing to build a practice that serves our community well.”

Located at 5 Home Place in Rosedale, Northcare is a large purpose-built facility offering urgent care and general practice services seven days a week. While pharmacy and radiology services are housed within the same building, they operate as separate businesses and are not owned by Northcare. Tend looks forward to engaging with the wider group of co-located healthcare providers to explore future collaboration.

“Peter has built a high-performing, trusted practice that reflects the best of what modern healthcare can offer,” said Tend Co-CEO James Robinson. “His dedication to clinical leadership, innovation and patient-first care is something we deeply respect.

This partnership ensures continuity for patients and staff, and aligns with Tend’s broader vision to deliver the best healthcare experiences for New Zealanders. Many of our existing patients live on the North Shore, so we’re delighted to now be even closer to home for them.”

Tend’s model blends in-person care with virtual services through a single patient record, offering seamless continuity whether patients are in clinic or online. Since launching in 2020, Tend has delivered over 4.5 million patient interactions and now supports around 145,000 enrolled patients across Aotearoa.

The addition of Northcare is part of Tend’s strategy to support GP-led practices with thoughtful succession planning, investment in infrastructure and technology and a focus on sustainable, locally embedded care.

“Finding the right pathway forward can be difficult for GPs looking to ease off or retire,” said Mr Robinson. “Our role is to support both the clinical team and their patients, ensuring practices remain strong and relevant for the next generation.”

Dr Boot agrees the time is right for change. “This move supports our patients, our people and the wider community. I’m proud of what we’ve built at Northcare and excited to see it grow in new and meaningful ways under Tend.”

When will Northcare be integrated into the Tend group?

The integration process is commencing shortly and will be completed before the end of the year. Patients and staff can expect a smooth and well-supported transition throughout this period.
