World Oral Health Day 2026: Oral Health Saves Lives
On World Oral Health Day, the Head and Neck Cancer Support Network Trust urges New Zealanders to take oral health seriously—it can save lives.
“Good oral health is vital for everyone, but it is especially critical for head and neck cancer survivors,” says Diana Ayling, Chair of the Trust. “Regular dental checks can detect early signs of cancer, and proper care supports recovery and long-term wellbeing.”
Head and neck cancers affect the mouth, throat, and related structures. Survivors often face ongoing challenges like dry mouth, difficulty swallowing, and sensitive tissues, making professional guidance and support essential.
The Trust provides support packs, peer support, and practical advice to help survivors and their whānau manage oral health during and after treatment.
Tips for World Oral Health Day:
- Visit your dentist regularly.
- Watch for changes in your mouth, throat, or tongue.
- Encourage friends and whānau to do the same.
