HealthWarning Lifted For Harmful Algal Bloom InOpihi River At SH1Bridge
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora has lifted its harmful algal bloom health warning issued for the Opihi River at SH1 Bridge site.
Recent cyanobacteria surveys of theOpihi River at SH1 Bridge site hasshown the cover of potentially toxic harmful algae (benthic cyanobacteria) has reduced and is now below levels that are of concern to public health.
DrClaire Salter, Medical Officer of Healthfor the National Public Health Service, says Environment Canterbury’s weekly monitoring ofthe Opihi River at SH1 Bridge site will resume at the beginning of the 2026-27 contact recreation season.
