Climate Change Policy: Projects Mechanism Workshop and Negotiated Greenhouse Agreements Consultation

In October, the Government confirmed its climate change policy package for meeting New Zealand’s obligations under the Kyoto Protocol.

The Government is now focusing on the detailed design and implementation of the specific programme elements of the policy package, in particular Negotiated Greenhouse Agreements (NGAs) and the Projects mechanism for providing incentives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The New Zealand Climate Change Office plans to hold a workshop on the key design elements of the Projects mechanism in Wellington on Tuesday, 28 January 2003. It also plans to consult with key stakeholders on NGAs, (including eligibility criteria and key components of an agreement), at meetings to be held in February 2003.

NGA consultation meetings will be held on the following dates: Christchurch – Tuesday, 11 February 2003 Wellington – Wednesday, 12 February 2003 Auckland – Thursday 13, February 2003

An electronic format of the consultation paper on NGAs, including draft eligibility criteria, is attached. Cabinet Papers on the Projects mechanism and NGAs are available on the climate change website: http://www.climatechange.govt.nz
