Healthy job growth and good outlook attracts people to stay in New Zealand

Better job prospects and improving living standards are encouraging people to come to, and stay in New Zealand says Matt Robson MP.

Statistics released recently show increases in permanent and long term arrivals (up 8,270 from 2002), and decreases in permanent and long term departures (down 5,710 from 2002) between 2002 and 2003.

"The coalition's work in creating jobs through economic development and working in partnerships around the country is not only attracting people to live here, but it is giving people in New Zealand hope for the future so they are staying.

"People around the world can see that New Zealand is on the right track and are coming here to contribute. People already here want to stay and be part of the rebuilding work too.

"The statistics released continue the trend shown during the Clark Anderton Coalitions since 1999. Since 1999 permanent and long term departures have been going down and permanent and long term arrivals have been going up.

"The Progressives policies of full employment, free health and education and safer communities have helped put this Coalition government on the right track and bring hope to our communities for prosperity and security," said Matt Robson MP.
