ACT and National Want New Zealand Under The Nuclear Umbrella
By flirting with amendments to the present legislation prohibiting nuclear weapons and nuclear powered craft in New Zealand, Act and National are revealing that they wish to join the Bush administration in dismantling the international disarmament framework on nuclear weapons.
“Act and National’s recent statements and moves at National's conference show that their foreign policies will thrust us into nuclear alliances and trash the present high standing that we have as a firm supporter of international law and nuclear disarmament.
“There is no middle road between being a country that supports nuclear weapons or an opponent. Act and National have clearly indicated that step by step they are preparing to take New Zealand back into the nuclear camp,” said Matt Robson, Progressive deputy leader and former Disarmament Minister.
