Winston Peters vows to find out who was Treasurer 1996-98
“Let me remind you that Labour sold Air New Zealand and National sold New Zealand Rail" - Mr Peters speech today
Matt Robson says he is puzzled by the fact that Winston Peters is forgetting his role in asset sales and his failure in invest in New Zealand when he had the opportunity.
"Mr Peters has made a very good speech today about damaging strategic asset sales by National and Labour governments in the past.
"The key point, however, is that the NZ First/National coalition government elected in 1996 with Winston Peters as its Figurehead Treasurer never sought to protect New Zealand's interests by investing to reverse that damage, says Progressive MP Matt Robson.
"After the wasted years of NZ First/National misrule, this Labour-Progressive government has had to pick up the pieces by investing in New Zealand: from its rail tracks to its national airline, from Kiwibank to saving Solid Energy from the last National-led coalition government's plan to hock it off at bargain basement prices," the Progressive MP said.
