Governor-General to attend VE Day commemorations
The Governor-General Dame Silvia Cartwright will this week travel to Russia to attend commemorations marking the 60th Anniversary of Victory Day in Europe.
President Putin has invited the Governor-General and Mr Peter Cartwright to attend various events on the day, including a parade in Red Square, the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider and a State Reception in the Kremlin.
Over 63 countries will be represented at the commemorations; those attending include the President of the United States, the German Chancellor and the Governor-General of Australia.
During the absence of the Governor-General from 5 to 11 May 2005, the Chief Justice, Dame Sian Elias, will act as Administrator of Government.
