Dunne denounces Maori Party
United Future leader Peter Dunne says further disturbing evidence is emerging that the Maori Party is completely unfit to play a constructive role in protecting democracy and voters should ensure it never has any role in influencing any New Zealand Government.
“The Maori Party says it can’t support a Parliamentary motion to condemn Robert Mugabe’s brutal regime in Zimbabwe, apparently because all the news reports are coming from white, western media organisations and therefore cannot be relied upon.
“There’s a word for that viewpoint. It starts with ‘b’, ends with ‘t’ and it’s not ‘boat’,” said Mr Dunne.
“But the Maori Party’s hypocrisy doesn’t end there. It has been completely silent on the matter of the self-styled Maori Government of Aotearoa, which has been wandering around Gisborne demanding ‘rent’ money from businesses.
“This has nothing to do with Maori sovereignty and everything to do with thugs demanding money with menaces.
“The clear message from the Maori Party’s attitude is that appalling behaviour is just fine, as long as your skin is not white. Imagine if they were part of the next Government,” said Mr Dunne.
