Wellington National Candidates Next Step - Dunne
Dunne: the next step for Wellington National
candidates
Ohariu-Belmont MP and United Future leader Peter Dunne said tonight he agrees with the National Party’s Wellington candidates that "Wellingtonians now have a clear choice in front of them.”
The National candidates say “Despite having eight 'local' MPs, Labour has now made it clear that Transmission Gully will never happen if they are re-elected.
” A Don Brash-led National Government has
pledged to spend all the petrol tax on the roads, and this
will deliver an extra $4.5 billion over the
decade.
"Labour has trampled over the robust consultative process currently in place by announcing a funding package which leaves mayors with little choice but to go with the coastal route upgrade.”
Mr Dunne said the National Party’s Wellington candidates now have a further obligation.
“They should immediately get a firm promise from Don Brash and their transport spokesman Maurice Williamson that any future National-led Government will fund the Transmission Gully route – no ifs, no buts, and no maybes.
“Then the people of Wellington, indeed, the whole lower North Island, will have a very clear choice,” said Mr Dunne.
