Baldock: NZ First picks up UF marine reserves policy
NZ First has essentially uplifted United Future’s marine reserves policy, “which I suppose is a back-handed compliment”, United Future’s Larry Baldock said today.
“I guess they were too busy planning hit squads and looking to earn grubby headlines from vilifying minorities to actually think about putting together policy. And let’s face it, NZ First is all about pulling one over the electorate.
“And the terms ‘original thought’ and ‘NZ First’ are not usually found together, so I guess we can excuse them, but a little credit would have been the decent thing to do.”
Mr Baldock said United Future was used to other parties following its lead, as National did earlier this year when it shamelessly picked up United Future’s policy for restructuring the Conservation Department.
“And virtually every party has followed us on families - although admittedly they have tended towards lip-service and grandstanding,” he said.
“The reality remains that United Future is the common sense party and even our opponents recognise it.”
