Dunne: Craven Peters hides from Iraqis
New Zealanders yesterday saw the real Winston Peters - “the craven, unprincipled politician skulking around Parliament, doing everything but facing up like a man to two innocent Iraqis who he had attacked in Parliament”, United Future leader Peter Dunne said today.
“They got the full Peters treatment - unsubstantiated allegations made under parliamentary privilege that left their reputations in tatters without so much as a shred of evidence.
“And when they come to Parliament yesterday, Mr Peters didn’t have the guts to face them.”
Mr Dunne said he was embarrassed as a parliamentarian to see the ongoing abuse of parliamentary privilege by the NZ First leader who clearly feels that individuals are simply “collateral damage in his ongoing campaign of fear and division politics”.
“Amer Salman and Omar Ali at the very least deserved to meet a politician with sufficient integrity to look them in the eye. I mean if you attack someone, then produce no evidence, you at least owe them that.
“I think New Zealanders have had a gutsful of the kind of gutter politics that is Mr Peters’ stock-in-trade, because the reality is, as he proved yesterday, he doesn’t care who he hurts or what damage he does to get a vote,” Mr Dunne said.
