Ellis case disappointments
The conviction of Marc Ellis on a drug charge has disappointed the Minister in charge of the coalition government’s drug policy.
Progressive leader Jim Anderton said that a lot of
adults use drugs believing
there is no harm in doing so.
But by providing a profitable market for the drug dealers,
they encourage more dangerous drugs to become available,
including methamphetamine.
“Unfortunately many vulnerable young people end up badly damaged. And, as Marc Ellis has sadly found, even for very successful and talented role models, the consequences can be very serious.
“The Progressive Party is anti-drugs.
"This coalition government is toughening up on education, enforcement and treatment to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and other drug abuse.
“This high-profile case is yet another
example, as if one were needed, of why
it is so vital to
be intelligent, comprehensive and relentless in reducing the
damage caused by alcohol and other drugs.
“Progressive is the anti-drugs insurance policy in a new Labour-led coalition government,” Jim Anderton said.
