Peters should sit with Labour - Brash
National Party Leader Don Brash says New Zealand First should sit with Labour on the Government side of the house when Parliament resumes.
“Clearly Winston Peters has a much closer support relationship with Helen Clark than the Greens do.”
Dr Brash is commenting after a bid by New Zealand First to take up seats on the Opposition benches in Parliament.
“Mr Peters is again trying to have his cake and eat it too. He can’t have it both ways.
“Here are the facts. His party supports the Labour-led Government and keeps it afloat with a confidence and supply agreement. He is a Minister in that Government and he is answerable to the Prime Minister in his portfolio.
“He will face questions as a Minister and he will answer on behalf of the Clark/Peters Government.
“New Zealand First appears to be in denial.
“It consciously gave the Opposition benches when it agreed to support Labour. That is something the party will have to come to accept,” says Dr Brash.
