Brethren to face police over use of false address
The Chief Electoral Officer has replied to the
Progressive Party complaint over their use of a false
address in their election publicity material.
"I am pleased that the Chief Electoral Officer, David Henry, has asked the police to investigate 'the accuracy or legitimacy of the address supplied by the person who has authorised this advertising'.
"I look forward to the police investigations getting to the bottom of what appears to be another attempt by the Exclusive Brethren to covertly influence the outcome of the election," Jim Anderton said.
A breach of the advertising requirements under the Electoral Act carries a maximum fine on conviction of $3000.00.
