Petition opposing relocation of Environment BOP
United Future Deputy Leader Judy Turner is today to launch a petition calling on the Bay of Plenty Regional Council to oppose the relocation of Environment Bay of Plenty's head office from Whakatane to Tauranga.
"I have read through the Deloittes report and have found nothing to suggest that relocating Environment BOP to Tauranga will benefit the wider BOP region," said Mrs Turner.
"The regional council invested in a substantial building programme in Whakatane eight years ago, signalling their commitment to the community, now to pull out is potentially disastrous to the town."
"I am launching a petition today which I wish to present to the Bay of Plenty Regional Council. I hope that everyone who is concerned about the Whakatane community will come and sign it."
The petition is available to be signed at 189 Commerce Street, Whakatane from this afternoon.
