Copeland welcomes Bunnings move
Independent MP Gordon Copeland today expressed his delight that Bunnings shops will remain closed this Easter Sunday.
“I worked closely with the National Distribution Union to oppose the Easter Sunday Trading Bills in Parliament last year,” said Mr Copeland. “Those efforts, which saw churches and unions making common cause, were successful but I was conscious that Bunnings and others seem prepared to ignore the law and continue with plans to have their shops open on Easter Sunday.”
“Opposition to Easter Sunday trading continues to grow amongst kiwis. Work/life balance has become a very definite issue for families and retail workers together with many shop owners are demanding that politicians retain the status quo for Easter Sunday.”
