Search and Surveillance Bill
The Justice and Electoral Committee has been considering the Search and Surveillance Bill since August 2009, and has received evidence from a range of submitters.
In the coming months it is the intention of the committee to make an interim report to the House of Representatives to facilitate a process of further consultation with those submitters, including an opportunity for them to provide the committee with additional written submissions.
The committee is likely to request that submitters focus on an amended version of the bill and additional supporting material, which is intended to address the concerns of submitters, clarify the existing legislative position, and explain the proposed changes. It is the committee’s intention to release these documents for consultation once its report is presented. Submitters will be contacted directly by the committee at that time.
