Horan: Mining law must include local employment requirement
Independent MP Brendan Horan says the National Party’s Simon Bridges must pull his head out of the sand.
“No self-respecting country anywhere in the world allows mineral or oil extraction by foreign companies without a minimum level of local employment,” said Brendan Horan. “Yet Simon Bridges believes that New Zealand should allow mining operators into the country without a requirement to employ Kiwis as even a paltry 10% of the workforce.
“His approach is a threat to the New Zealand economy. Having voted down my amendment to the Crown Mineral bill, Simon Bridges is delivering a policy of fewer jobs, fewer productive people paying taxes in New Zealand, and more money vanishing offshore.
