UnitedFuture Wants Review of Refugee Policy
UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne is calling for a complete review of New Zealand’s refugee policy in the wake of a critical report from Changemakers Refugee Forum and the National Refugee Network.
“The report highlights serious flaws and inequities in the treatment of quota refugees and convention refugees.
“The whole approach needs to be reviewed – both in terms of the differential treatment (for which there is no ongoing justification) and the overall refugee quota figure.
“This has not been reviewed in years – and ought to be lifted to 1,000 –per year.
“The government should take the opportunity provided by this report to thoroughly review its current approach to refugee resettlement, and to develop a consistent policy, far more in tune with today’s realities,” Mr Dunne says.
