Million dollar average house now less than a year away
Latest figures from QV show the Auckland housing market is blistering hot and racing away from Kiwi families, says Labour’s housing spokesperson Phil Twyford.
“On the current rate the average house price across the Auckland region will hit $1 million in less than a year - 329 days.
“There was 18.8% growth in the last year up $135,246 from $720,426 to $855,672 in Auckland.
“This is nuts. It is further evidence of a housing crisis out of control. National has been in denial, offering only a few poll-driven policies that amount to too little too late.
“Only a crackdown on speculators and a massive government-backed building programme will rein in house prices that are destroying the Kiwi dream of affordable home ownership,” says Phil Twyford.
