Minister must stand down for investigation
John Key must stand down his Minister while the Auditor-General investigates the Saudi sheep deal, Opposition leader Andrew Little says.
“More than $11 million of taxpayer money was wasted on this controversial deal which was instigated and implemented under Murray McCully’s watch. His hands are all over the detail.
“Now that the Auditor-General has seen fit to investigate this spending of public money, it is only right and proper that the Minister be stood aside from his portfolio.
“He has admitted he was the driving force behind the deal and that he welcomes the scrutiny. Now it is up to the Prime Minister to hold his Government to the highest standards and with complete transparency during the inquiry.
“Nothing less than New Zealand’s
international reputation in fair dealing is at stake in this
murky mess which has only been revealed after months of
investigation and questions in Parliament. Our Foreign
Minister simply cannot continue in his role while his
actions are under investigation,” Andrew Little says.
