Dunedin South Youth MP selected
After a two month selection process, the Dunedin South Youth MP for 2015/16 has been selected with Hamish Duncan from King’s High School selected, Dunedin South MP Clare Curran said today.
“I was hugely impressed by the calibre of all the finalists. They all shared a passion for youth issues, and will all make great advocates. I look forward to working with all four of the finalists on projects around youth engagement.
“One candidate stood out for his passion and conviction. Hamish Duncan has been chosen as the Dunedin South MP for 2015/16. Hamish spoke about the need for youth to be more engaged in politics, and how both schools and politicians can make politics more appealing for young people. This was a common theme among the four finalists, and one which needs addressing.
“I will work with Hamish on youth and community issues in Dunedin South during his tenure as Youth MP. He will then represent Dunedin South at Youth Parliament in July next year.
“Youth Parliament provides an excellent opportunity for young people to have their voice heard in Parliament” says Clare Curran.
The other Dunedin South Youth MP finalists were Sam van der Weerden from King’s High School, Ashley King from Logan Park High School, and Beth Clearwater from Bayfield High School.
