Nats must stop delaying Opotiki Harbour
National has yet again delayed the Opotiki Harbour development, this time funding another scoping study that isn’t needed, Labour’s Economic Development spokesperson David Clark says.
“It’s good that the Government is moving on this proposal but it’s moving at a snail’s pace. There have already been years of consultation and a full business case provided by the Opotiki District Council and the local economic development association.
“Now National has promised $3 million for a yet another study. We don’t need more reports.
“The Opotiki Harbour is a good idea that’s backed up by solid evidence. The consistent delays are costing the region jobs, investment and development. It’s holding back Eastern Bay of Plenty.
“The cynic would say these studies are timed to be finished by election year, just in time for a nice photo op and announcement.
“It’s time to get moving. National is holding Opotiki back,” says David Clark.
