Prison performance report fail
The Government’s prison privatisation experiment has been an epic fail according to a performance report quietly released by the Department of Corrections, says Labour’s Corrections spokesperson Kelvin Davis.
“The prison management performance reports reveal what we’ve known for some time and that’s Serco failed to manage and safely contain the increasing problems inside Mt Eden.
“It’s a shambles and the Prime Minister needs to step in and take control of a potentially volatile and dangerous situation.
“Questions need to be asked why the report was released with some secrecy and what exactly the Government was trying to hide?
“How is it possible that Serco’s punishment was not receiving a bonus of $315,000 for failings at Mt Eden? That’s not punishment, that’s just not getting a bonus.
“Mt Eden Corrections has gone from top of the table to the bottom in the blink of an eye and I’m concerned that the Minister wasn’t getting all the facts until we held him to account.
“The latest prison performance report has showcased the problems that were inside Mt Eden and now the Government must admit the Serco circus needs to stop,” says Kelvin Davis.
