The Māori Party mourns with the rest of Aotearoa in the
passing of Dr Ngāpo Wehi, QSM.
He, along with the late
Dr Pimia Wehi, QSM were instrumental in carrying on the
legacy of one of the oldest Kapa rōpū - Waihirere before
forming Te Waka Huia.
They devoted their lives to Kapa Haka, says Māori Party co-leader, Te Ururoa Flavell. Their hakapapa lives on through the many generations they have taught. Our culture will be forever enriched by the likes of these greats.
Ngāpo was the Godfather of Kapa Haka. We send our aroha and thoughts to the whānau at this time and we thank the whānau for sharing their pāpā with us over the many years, says Māori Party co-leader, Marama Fox.
Te Manu Huia kua tau
Te
Waka Huia kua mau
