Housing development plan, Point England Recreation Reserve
14 December 2016
A housing development plan for Point England Recreation Reserve
You can now have your say on the proposals set out in the Point England Development Enabling Bill. The bill aims to enable housing development on about a quarter (11.69 hectares) of the Point England Recreation Reserve in Tāmaki, Auckland. This would provide more affordable and mixed-value housing in a desirable location close to public transport.
The land is owned by the Crown but vested in Auckland Council as a recreation reserve. The bill would enable state housing development by revoking the land’s reserve status on the 11.69 hectares. The remaining three-quarters of reserve would remain a reserve.
The bill would preserve the existing interests in the reserve, including a right of first refusal under the Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau Redress Act 2014.
The bill also requires the relevant Minister to consult with Auckland Council, the Tāmaki Redevelopment Company Limited, and the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board before acting on a proposed development for the land.
