Thoughts invited on extending anti-money laundering regime
28 March 2017
What do you think about extending New Zealand’s anti-money laundering regime?
You have until 20 April 2017 to have your say on extending New Zealand’s anti-money laundering regime. The Law and Order Committee is inviting submissions on the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Amendment Bill.
This bill would amend the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 to apply the provisions on deterring money laundering and terrorism financing to real estate agents, lawyers, accountants, conveyancers, the New Zealand Racing Board, and some high-value dealers. Currently the obligations only apply to casinos and financial institutions.
The bill would also extend the reporting requirements to include the reporting of large cash transactions and suspicious activity, and developing and maintaining a risk assessment and compliance programme.
