New Zealand First Spokesperson for the Environment Jenny Marcroft welcomes the Government’s announcement to phase-out single-use plastic bags.
“This announcement balances the interests of consumers, businesses and the health of the environment. It also demonstrates the Government’s commitment to upholding New Zealand’s clean, green image,” Ms Marcroft says.
“With industry already moving away from single-use plastic bags, and with mounting public support for a phase-out it was only a matter of time.
“We are also pleased by the consideration for businesses through the allowance of 6 months’ lead-in time and the taking of a consultative approach. We strongly encourage New Zealanders to submit on the proposal in order to effectively implement this change,” Ms Marcroft says.
