Auckland Cost Of Living Worse Under National
National is failing our biggest city as Aucklanders grapple with the high cost of living.
“Facing the worst unemployment rate in the country and a surge in homelessness, Christopher Luxon promised to fix things but instead he’s making life worse for Aucklanders,” Labour Leader Chris Hipkins said.
“With 15,000 more people unemployed in Auckland in the last year alone, it’s no wonder many are leaving the country in record numbers.
“The data shows there are more Aucklanders who can and want to work compared to a year ago, but there simply aren't enough jobs for them.
“With food prices shooting up five percent and reports indicating more Aucklanders view their housing costs as unaffordable – people are getting sick of National’s excuses,” Chris Hipkins said.
“Cancelling more than 1500 public houses in Auckland when there is a reported 90 percent increase in homelessness in the city shows just how out of touch this Government is,” Peeni Henare said.
“Tāmaki Makaurau can’t afford another three years of National. Whānau are struggling to make ends meet and despite all of his promises, Christopher Luxon is doing nothing about it.”
