Green Party Marks Intl. Transgender Day Of Visibility By Announcing Trans Activist Lauren Craig To Run As Candidate
The Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand are proud to announce that trans and environmental activist Lauren Craig has been selected as a candidate for the Green Party list for the 2026 General Election.
“The Green Party have always been at the forefront of the fight for trans rights. I am honoured to be part of such an incredible line-up of candidates on this year’s list.”
Lauren Craig recently led on a petition for the Government to overturn their ban on puberty blockers for transgender and takatāpui young people, culminating in a large rally at parliament alongside the PSA and community groups.
Craig is best known for founding Students for Climate Solutions, who just last year took their case to the Supreme Court to overturn the Government’s decision to allow oil and gas exploration.
“I’m standing for the Green Party because they are always there to push for the right thing, be it for a social, environmental, or economic cause. Only the Greens are really able to address the systemic issues that we face today.”
She has been strongly engaged in the party for years, having most recently been co-convenor of the Young Greens and previously Field Manager for Tory Whanau’s Mayoral campaign.
