Northland communities will benefit from a nationwide expansion of community infusion services, improving access to cancer treatment closer to home, says Northland MP Grant McCallum.

Dargaville has been confirmed as a future location for a new infusion centre, improving access for patients across the Kaipara and surrounding rural communities. Further expansion will also include additional capacity in Kaitaia.

New services are already being rolled out in Northland, including a new centre in the Bay of Islands and expanded services in Whangārei.

The Government is delivering 14 new infusion centres and expanding a further 14 sites across the country. This will support hundreds more infusion treatments each week and help thousands more patients receive care in their own communities.

“Dargaville is a key hub for the Kaipara and surrounding rural communities, and this will make a real difference for patients who currently travel to Whangārei or further afield.

“This investment supports both access to new cancer medicines and the capacity to deliver them locally, which is essential for improving outcomes in Northland.”

Around 13,000 additional cancer infusions are expected in 2025/26, a 12 percent increase on previous volumes, supported by increased capacity in facilities and workforce.
