ID Cards Still On Government Agenda?
“Despite their deafening silence on this issue, Sandra Lee’s recent actions suggests that the introduction of Driver’s ID Cards is still on this new government’s agenda,” observes new Libertarianz Leader Peter Cresswell. So one would judge by Lee’s reaction following the confiscation of her ministerial car when her Press Secretary was found driving it without her new ID Card.
“Rather than commend her Press Secretary for her obvious commitment to personal freedom, Sandra Lee instead persuaded her to ‘upgrade’ her licence, and be issued with her own ID Card,” says Cresswell.
He suggests that – despite their silence - this clearly demonstrates that the new government is entirely in favour of the introduction of Maurice Wimpianson’s ID Card regime, with all its attendant worries.
“Perhaps, he says, “Ms Lee could explain to us why she supports this overbearing new regime, and why she does not see the introduction of the new Driver’s ID Card as a threat to individual liberty”.
