Staunch Campus Attack!

Staunch, the youth wing of the Alliance, is running a nationwide campaign urging students and other interested people to submit to the Select Committee Inquiry into Student loans, fees and allowances, and the resourcing of Tertiary Education.

"Almost everyday we hear of new research showing how the reforms of the last decade have shut people out, and burdened vast numbers of young people with massive debts," said Julie Fairey, Staunch spokesperson.

"Finally students have a chance to give their views, and relate their experiences, so that the mistakes of the last ten years are not repeated."

Submissions must be in to the Education and Science Select Committee by Monday 24th of July.

Staunch has been organising submission gathering on campuses throughout the country, through stalls, speaking to lectures and distributing and collecting submission forms.

Already the Christchurch Staunch group alone has collected nearly five hundred submission forms in only the first two days of its drive. Staunch is also highlighting the online submission form offered by APSU at www.apsu.org.nz.

"Just this week AUS released figures showing a 36% drop in per student government funding over the last twenty years, and those costs are being passed directly on to students who can not afford it.

“The voice of each student, parent or indebted wage-slave at this inquiry will be impossible for the government to ignore," said Tom Haig, Staunch spokesperson.
