The End Of Fundamentalist Political Parties?
ALRANZ: The End Of Fundamentalist Political Parties?
"It is sad that Peter Dunne has chosen to merge his United Party with the ex-Christian Democrat Future New Zealand fundamentalist party." commented Craig Young, ALRANZ Research Officer today.
"While Future New Zealand opposed the death penalty, it still contained a reasonable complement of Christian Right activists on its party list. In addition, it did little to differentiate itself meaningfully from its estranged partner, the Christian Heritage Party. I hope Mr Dunne realises that his decision may alienate centre-right, fiscally responsible social liberals from voting for United with their list vote."
"As for Graham Capill's remark that this would provide an opportunity for the Christian Heritage Party to rebrand itself as the only Christian Right political party in New Zealand, he should have realised that most people have left his particular Brand X product on the shelves because of its sour and nauseating taste on reproductive choice and other issues."
