Report On Specialist Education Services Consulting Contract

Deputy Commissioner at the State Services Commission, Tony Hartevelt, said today the Minister of Education, Trevor Mallard, would receive a report as soon as possible on the Specialist Education Services (SES) handling of Celia Lashlie's contract.

Earlier this week the Minister asked the State Services Commissioner to investigate the actions of the SES in Ms Lashlie's case.

Ms Lashlie was working for a consulting company, Momentum. Momentum contracted with SES to provide Ms Lashlie as a leased executive for a set period. The contract with Momentum was terminated by SES following public comments by Ms Lashlie. Mr Hartevelt said Ms Lashlie was not a direct employee of SES.

Mr Hartevelt, and his team of Commission advisors, will compile the report on behalf of the State Services Commissioner.

Mr Hartevelt said interviews would be conducted with parties including management at the SES, Ms Lashlie, Momentum, and staff in the Minister's office.

Mr Hartevelt said: "The report will be to the Minister, and it will be for the Minister to make any decisions on what action is taken.

"It will take a maximum of seven days, from today, before it is possible to provide the Minister with a final, written report. Ideally, the report will be completed before that."

Mr Hartevelt said no comment would be made publicly by the SSC on the report. "That would be unfair to the parties," he said. Decisions on what would be released, on the report, were for the Minister of Education.
