More Sex Education and Contraceptive Subsidies
More Sex Education and Contraceptive Subsidies, Fewer Abortions
"New Zealand needs three things if we really want to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies and abortions in New Zealand. We need comprehensive sexuality education in our schools, we need a detailed sexual and reproductive health strategy that includes the right to over-the-counter emergency contraception." Mr Craig Young, Research Officer of ALRANZ said today when his organisation responded to the latest increase in abortion statistics.
"Finally, we need to integrate abortion services into the wider area of reproductive and sexual health. We need to abolish the expensive certifying consultant system, close down the Abortion Supervisory Committee and concentrate on the prevention of unwanted pregnancy and abortion instead. We need to stop pretending that an outdated seventies abortion law reflects current political and health realities. It doesn't - it only makes them worse."
