Dunedin Anti-War Protest

Dunedin Anti-War Protest

In Dunedin today around 50 people turned up to a peace rally in the Octagon in response to the air strikes carried out against Afghanistan by the United States and British governments in the past 24 hours. At the rally there was overwhelming support for the idea of a further protest to be held in the Octagon at 12pm on Saturday October 13th, when similar anti-war rallies and marches are also being planned in Auckland and most of the other main centres.

A PA system has been booked and posters advertising the rally will be available for distribution from the Dunedin Environment Centre by mid-afternoon on Tuesday. There will be an open mic a the rally and people are encouraged to come along and speak - it would also be great to have plenty of creative inspiration in terms of music, banners and artwork.

In the meantime there will be candlelight vigils in the Octagon every night until the bombing stops. People should also remember to come along to the regular "Picnics for Peace" in the Botanical Gardens at 2pm every Sunday.
