New Information for Women on International Women’s Day

Recognising the need for information addressing women’s human rights concerns, the Human Rights Commission is launching its new “Women’s Lifecycle Leaflet series” tomorrow.

Chief Human Rights Commissioner Rosslyn Noonan said that it seemed right to celebrate International Women’s Day with information aimed specifically at women.

“It is important that women in New Zealand are fully aware of their rights so as to better assert them,” said Ms Noonan.

“Women have different concerns at various stages in their lives. These leaflets address some of those areas in which women remain disadvantaged.”

The series consists of three simple, easy-to-understand leaflets that cover the following:

- “Women, Work, and Human Rights” has information about applying for a job, rights at work and work and family issues.

- “Pay Equity” has information about the gender pay gap, what the law says and what you can do about it.

- “Your Rights as an Older Woman” has information about rights in the workforce, rights in goods and services and elder abuse.

A fourth leaflet covering rights relating to the proposed Paid Parental Leave scheme will be added to the series at a later date.
