A pay settlement potentially benefiting 6000 workers has been settled between the country’s largest union, the EPMU, and New Zealand Post.

Details of the two-year collective agreement are going out to postal workers today.

If they accept it, they will get a lump-sum payment now, a 3% pay rise in July and another 3% pay rise in July next year.

The deal also improves sick pay provisions, clarifies hours of work for retail workers and ensures proper staffing levels to minimise the times in which posties are asked to cover for absent colleagues.

The agreement also provides for negotiations over a better bonus scheme and a review of Easter Saturday work.

The EPMU is the largest postal sector union. It current has 5000 members at NZ Post, but the agreement is available to all workers who join the union before July 1.
