John Whitehead Appointed Treasury Acting Chief Executive
The State Services Commissioner, Michael Wintringham, today announced that Treasury Deputy Secretary and Branch Manager of Regulatory and Tax Policy, John Whitehead, has been appointed acting Chief Executive and Secretary to the Treasury.
The current Chief Executive and Secretary, Dr Alan Bollard, will soon finish at Treasury to take up his new position as Governor of the Reserve Bank. Mr Whitehead will start his acting position on his departure.
Mr Whitehead first joined Treasury in 1982, subsequently filling positions as Director of Macroeconomic Policy and Director of Tax Policy and International Economics. Between 1985 and 1992, he worked as an Economic Advisor in the Prime Minister's office, and as a Minister (Economic) at the New Zealand High Commission in London. He was appointed Deputy Secretary and Branch Manager of Corporate Services in 1996. In 1998 Mr Whitehead moved to the position of Deputy Secretary and Branch Manager of Treasury's Regulatory and Tax Policy Branch.
"The process to appoint a new Chief Executive and Secretary to the Treasury is under way and is likely to take some time, as I want to ensure I access the best pool of candidates," Mr Wintringham said.
