Building
Industry Authority Chairman Barry Brown has welcomed the
release of the Discussion Document on the Building Act as an
important step toward improving the effectiveness of New
Zealand’s building regime.
“We are keen to see
improvements to the quality of our building regulations and
equally keen to see innovation and effectiveness addressed
by the Building Act,” said Mr Brown.
The Building Industry
Authority is very willing to take a greater leadership role
in the industry and the discussion paper sets out some ways
that this may occur, he said.
He said there is no dispute
that the Building Industry Authority needs to expand its
role with more expert staff and an accelerated work
programme and that is being done.
This document is a
significant step in the important process of improving the
environment in which the building industry must operate. It
is vital that industry members contribute to the process by
reading the document and offering input.
