The exploits of Dr Death

The exploits of Dr Death

Lisette Nigot, Sydney and Marjorie Croft, Nancy Crick are but some of his victims. Each took their life while enjoying relatively good health. Each had attended workshops conducted by Dr Nitschke who is shortly to tour New Zealand. Each had signed the disclaimer that all attendees are required to sign stating that they will not use the information obtained to "assist in the act of suicide, either of myself, or of any other person." Dr Nitschke does not think much of the disclaimers that he requires people to sign. The only one to benefit from the disclaimers is himself as he hides behind the legal shield created by those now dead.

Nitschke knows that he has to tread a fine line as he is under police investigation for his involvement in the deaths of those who have fallen to his spell.

Proponents of euthanasia in New Zealand claim that the proposed safeguards will limit medical practitioner assisted suicide to a small group of terminally ill patients suffering unbearably. However, the Death with Dignity Bill is so loose that this control will have no effect. Dr Nitschke who is here to rally support for the Bill and to train people in killing techniques has much broader applications in mind. Family Life International is very concerned that this view is not limited to Nitschke, rather it is an agenda that is adhered to by other advocates for euthanasia.

Dr Nitschke holds the position that all people regardless of age or state of health should have a right to take their life and that it should be legal to provide people with the knowledge to do so. Nitschke sees the safeguards as artificial barriers. Given that he has played a big part in the deaths of so many in Australia where euthanasia is illegal we would have to wonder what the death toll will be if it became legal in New Zealand.

Family Life International understands that Dr Nitschke is a supporter of Prof Singer's philosophy which considers that infanticide should not only be acceptable but preferable if the child doesn't pass certain cognitive tests. Nitschke certainly subscribes to the thinking that permits "death on demand". I would just wonder whose demand he is referring to.

With advocates like Nitschke and Singer leading the charge to legalise euthanasia we would have to wonder how long it would be before Parliament will be debating a private member's bill on the introduction of the Nazis laws that led to "the final solution". Let us choose life.
