Kinleith workers heading for CHH AGM

Striking Kinleith workers are getting up early tomorrow to take their message to shareholders.

The workers, who have been on strike since March 7, will leave Tokoroa by bus at 5am tomorrow to travel to Auckland for the Carter Holt Harvey annual meeting.

Their advocate, EPMU Auckland regional secretary Mike Sweeney, says that the workers are concerned that the shareholders do not know the real story behind the dispute.

“There have been a lot of distortions coming through the company’s media campaign,” he said.

“The company is trying to paint these people as dinosaurs. They want the shareholders to see that they are hardworking, reasonable people who just want a fair deal and a safe workplace.”

Two hundred and seventy workers have been on strike since March 7 over safety claw-backs and the threatened removal of a transparent appointment processes. Their previous collective agreement expired more than two years ago.
