Free Speech - Keith Locke Gets It Right!
Free Speech - Keith Locke Gets It Right!
"The burning of the NZ flag maybe distasteful, it maybe disrespectful, but
it certainly must be legal," Libertarianz Spokesman Russell Watkins said
today. "On this Keith Locke is 100% morally right - for once."
"Many New Zealanders fought and died under the NZ flag, defending 'Freedoms
ramparts on the sea,'" sings Watkins. "Yet surely one of the most important
freedoms is the freedom to challenge the State that the NZ flag represents.
Defending the ideals of free speech and free expression means that on
occasion we are going to hear, and see, people doing things that we
ourselves may disagree with - including burning the flag."
"To ban anyone (even unwashed hippies) from expressing their beliefs by
burning the flag flies in the face of the very meaning that the flag itself
is said to
stand for," concluded Watkins.
