2003 Scallop Fishing Season Opens Tuesday 15 July
The recreational scallop fishing season opens on Tuesday 15 July for most New Zealanders.
The season begins on Tuesday July 15 and runs until 14 February 2004 for all but the Southland Fishery Management Area, where the season runs from 1 October to 15 March inclusive. The scallop recreational daily bag limit varies throughout the five Fishery Management Areas in New Zealand: Auckland & Kermadec FMA 20 per person 100mm minimum size Central FMA 20 per person 100mm minimum size Challenger FMA 50 per person 90mm minimum size South-East FMA 20 per person 100mm minimum size *Southland FMA 10 per person 100mm minimum size *Shellfish dredging is prohibited inside Paterson Inlet, Stewart Island.
When measuring
scallops, recreational fishers should measure the greatest
diameter of the shell. If recreational fishers would like
